Channel 4 News has signed up one of the BBC’s most senior on-screen personalities. Matt Frei is to leave World News America to become the commercial broadcaster’s Washington Correspondent.

Frei is joining Channel 4 News as part of a rejig of its onscreen lineup that will also see political correspondent Cathy Newman becoming a regular presenter alongside main anchor Jon Snow and co-host Krishnan Guru-Murthy.

Channel 4 News has hired another BBC journalist, Newsnight correspondent Jackie Long, to be social affairs editor.
