Channel 4 News has signed up one of the BBC’s most senior on-screen personalities. Matt Frei is to leave World News America to become the commercial broadcaster’s Washington Correspondent.

The BBC has confirmed that it is considering whether or not to continue to provide local television news bulletins in the Channel Islands.

It is being reported that the BBC is considering proposals to “slim-down” the BBC News channel, concentrating on “developing news and headlines”. Plans are also being discussed which include increasing commercial income from its journalism as part of drives to cut costs by 20%.

The BBC has announced that Gordon Burns will be standing down from BBC North West Tonight at the end of September 2011, after almost 15 years of presenting the programme. He will continue to work with the BBC presenting a new radio show on Radio Manchester and Radio Lancashire, on Sunday mornings from September.

Less than half of the staff of BBC Breakfast have decided to make the move to Salford when the programme moves into MediaCityUK in spring 2012, with popular presenters Sian Williams and Chris Hollins among the 54% opting to stay in London.
